Don’t give up on the taste of decaffeinated tea
As with all real progress, the removal of caffeine from tea – or more precisely the removal of theine from tea—has taken some time to perfect.
“It took focused research and development, but one by one, the obstacles in the way of achieving a really fine cup of decaffeinated tea were duly removed,” says Alan Hargreaves at one of Britain’s leading brands, Typhoo Tea.
“Indeed, safeguarding our reputation for superior taste was of utmost priority in the decaffeination choice,” he explained. “And we achieved this with the most advanced techniques, with precision, and as imortantly, with far more tea leaves per cup.”
And how much is that?
“With most decaf brands, too little tea in the teabags makes the brew watery, weak and unsatisfying,” Hargreaves continued. “Instead, during the development stage, Typhoo researchers insisted on the decision to pack as much tea into each teabag as possible. In Canada, this is up from the average of 2 grams per teabag, to ours at 3.12 grams. Not only does the decaf taste and aroma improve distinctly, but so does the daily intake of the all-important antioxidants and flavanoids that are naturally found in tea.”
